About Us

Founded in 1893, the Meriden Humane Society is a non-profit, no kill animal shelter and rescue facility. Many of our animals are taken from high risk situations and from private citizens who are no longer able to care for their animals.

Our organization is privately run and operated. We are supported by patrons and residents who donate to our facility. Contrary to popular belief, we are not affiliated with the Connecticut Humane Society. Without the help we receive from the citizens of our community and surrounding communities, we would not be able to save all the animals that we do.

Our Mission

We believe it is our moral responsibility protect/improve the lives of animals in our care and to place them in loving permanent homes.

We can help the animals in our care by providing necessary medical care, sterilizations, consistent training, and a safe and healthy environment with unconditional love.  These are critical for ensuring we set them up for future successes.

We are committed to working collectively with others who share our dedication and passion for the voiceless.

We are committed to helping our Community Members by providing food/supply assistance, education on the importance of pet sterilization, responsible pet ownership, disease control, humane treatment of animals, and resources to assist with a variety of challenges faced as a pet owner.

What We Do

We work with veterinarians who provide spay and neuter services and any/all necessary medical care for pets in our care. We also work diligently to educate the public on the importance of pet sterilization, responsible pet ownership, disease control, as well as the humane treatment of animals.
