Canine Surrender Procedure

If no other options are viable, and you need to surrender your canine, please fill out the form Canine Request for Surrender by clicking on the link below.

Once MHS has the chance to review submitted form, MHS will contact you on whether we are able to consider your canine for an evaluation or not. If evaluation is approved, MHS will make an appointment with you for an available time.

Please note: you MUST provide proof of an up to date rabies vaccination to surrender your canine. We are unable to perform an evaluation without it.

A $20 deposit is required {click here to pay deposit via PayPal} to hold an appointment, and must be paid within 24hrs of scheduled appointment. If deposit is not paid, appointment is automatically released to the next canine on the waiting list.

Deposit will be applied to surrender fee if intake approved, and refunded (via online) if declined. If the appointment is a no-show or cancels without 24hr notice, deposit is forfeited. Failure to keep appointment may result in MHS filling available kennels with other canines on our waiting list. Please be courteous and call us at 203-238-3650 if you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason.

If your dog passes the evaluation, a $100 surrender donation can be paid via cash, check or Paypal and is due at intake.

Feline Surrender Procedure

If no other options are viable, and you need to surrender your feline, please fill out the form Feline Request for Surrender by clicking on the link below.

Once MHS has the chance to review your submitted form, we will contact you on whether we are able to consider your feline for intake. Please keep in mind we currently have a waiting list for felines at this time.

Please note: you MUST provide proof of an up to date rabies vaccination to surrender your feline. We are unable to accept your feline without it.

There is a $50 surrender donation for all felines taken into the shelter. This can be paid by cash, check or Paypal and is due at intake.
